- What do you want to do? I asked my older son. - I don’t know. I looked at him. Nathan was an intelligent young boy, I should say a young man actually. Somehow they always seem to stay like kids for us parents.
- So you are not sure in what field you want to study yet? - Not really. Still searching dad. He had left school a year ago and went to work for a small roofing company. It was quick money but he soon realized that the work was back breaking and was getting to him after a while. It was good, in a way, that he could find out by himself how a low paying job doing some hard work could be not so great after one year. He also realized that getting a better education would provide him the opportunity to have a better choice of a job or a career if he wanted too. I was glad that he came to his senses. Nathan is a very intelligent boy but very stubborn. It has to come from him. He is a decision maker. So after a year he decided by himself to look for something to do with his life. So here we were looking at online education on the living room computer. We agreed that it would be his best chance to get a quality education since he could stay in the renovated basement here, while doing his studying, instead of having to move away or rent an appartment and so on. He didn’t have enough money and I could not afford to pay the expenses related to this being on a invalidity pension. And to top it off I was divorced. So we spent the night browsing the Internet and finding all kinds of home learning colleges, online education or distant learning depending on how you want to call them. I like to call it college at home. Back in my time we were not so lucky. Education was where you had to go. Now you can have the college education coming to your home via the Internet. That is a major achievement for the online education and the Internet. So Nathan was taking notes of all the different options. I could feel that he was serious just by the way he was carefully noting all the details pertaining to the online colleges. He had a small binder and the pages were already filled with notes and remarks. I could see that in a day or two his decision of doing his home learning colleges would be taken. I was quite surprised to see the wide variety of choices the home learning colleges had to offer. I was almost tempted to take a course myself. There is no age limit and one would not feel uneasy to take a course in the comfort of his own home instead of being in a classroom filled with young bright students looking at the old timer trying to follow the teacher. I could go at my own pace and follow my own schedule. Something to think about really… - I got it! Said Nathan with a great smile on his face. I found the course I like dad! I was happy for him. It seems he will go for home learning accounting courses. Indeed, online education has changed the way of learning and getting a diploma. Anyone now can have a career. Just need a computer and a connection to the Internet and of course the will to learn. The solution is home learning colleges, and all that at our own fingertips. Amazing. —————- —————- —————-
